At Barker-Whittle, we strongly believe that our success is largely due to the support we get from the local community. Residents around these parts have been very kind to us, entrusting the beauty of their home to our company. So, when the opportunity to give back presented itself, we were only all too eager to accept it.
A Project for the Community
Being one of the most trusted Dulux-accredited painters in Perth, Barker-Whittle was happy to give back to the local community by undertaking a painting project for a local cancer foundation. Working with the Cancer Council Western Australia, we helped give a new lease on one of the organisation’s lodges by giving it a fresh coat of paint.
Teams of Dulux-accredited painters, many of whom were from Barker-Whittle, recently put on their overalls and provided more than $100,000-worth of labour and services to give one of the Cancer Council WA’s lodges a new look.
The Crawford Lodge over in Nedlands in Perth is one of two self-catering accommodation facilities by the Council providing a home away from home for cancer patients and their families who live in the country. These patients and their carers travel all the way from the country to Perth for their treatments. The Lodge comprises 6 single units, 44 twin units, and 3 family units.
A Much-Needed Makeover
“Fourteen years at full capacity made the guest rooms and amenities at Crawford Lodge start to look a bit tired, so repainting 50 guest rooms and all the additional guest facilities has been a real bonus,” said Ron ten Hoor, Accommodation Services Manager of the Crawford Lodge.
“We are well aware that many of our guests are going through a challenging time during their stay with us so any additional way we can add to their wellbeing is most worthwhile. In fact, many of our guests have already commented on how fresh everything looks around the place thanks to a new lick of paint,” ten Hoor added.
Giving Back
Peter Barker, owner of Barker-Whittle Master Painters & Decorators, for their part, said the project was a good thing to do.
“The people of Perth have been good to us. This is our way of giving something back. Think of it as just being good corporate citizens,” Peter explained.
When asked by the Council to do the repainting, the company didn’t hesitate. Peter Barker and the team were only too happy to help.
